Looking After Yourself

Looking After Yourself

Being a carer can be challenging, stressful and hard work physically and mentally.

If you’re a carer it is important that you look after your own health and wellbeing. Many carers concentrate on the person they look after and forget about looking after themselves properly.

Carers are less likely to find time in their day to focus on their own health, overlooking their own medical check-ups and treatments. 2 in 5 carers report that they deferred seeking treatment because of their responsibilities as a carer.

However, it is important that you look after yourself so you have the energy and emotional stability to carry out your caring role. This section has advice and details of services that can help you keep healthy and well.
